amu is actually 72.61 for Ge

atomic number = number of electrons

number of electrons = number of protons

the rest are neutrons (from amu)

so Ge has 32 electrons 32 protons and 41 neutrons

The descrepancy in the whole numbers comes from the fact that the amu is calculated as a "relative atomic weight" factoring in all the know isotopic abundances of Gemanium isotopes and %'s.

#protons = atomic #
#electrons = atomic #
# neutrons = amu - atomic # = 74 - 32 = 42
