One function of the Iraqi time table is to let the Iraqi's know when they need to be at full functioning by.. it sets goals and helps them achieve these goals... and if these goals are achieved then the Iraqis will be able to stand against the terrorists on their own.... so with that in mind.. how does the terrorists knowing the date make any difference? if Iraq is functioning as it should the terrorists won't have a foothold to get back in.

someone is bound to say "Well what if the goals aren't met" and my answer to that is that that would mean the Iraqi's had made their decision on what was more important to them at this time.. and we can't run their nation forever.

kollan.. that "50 bucks and go set this" is pretty darn insightful.. thank you for the input ... but I'm not sure how that relates to the time table?

you have a totally wrong idea,i live in Iraq, and i can assure you that those who fight doesn`t fight for the country, they fight because it`s like this "take this explosive charge, put it in the street ,we`ll give ya 50$"...they are totally peasants mindless.
ps:the sunni parliment members and goverment participated, they`re the backbone of terrorism, they gained their seats just because of what is called "everybody should be in"....
to be honest,i live in Iraq ,but i still don`t know who really control all this mess...

From the US entry into WWII, it took less than four years until the war was over. It has now been 4 years since we went into Iraq, and the Iraqis haven't been able to install a police force, let alone an army. The police force was just implicated in over 60 revenge murders. The army is a joke. With as much money as we have poured in there, they could have hired an army of mercenaries.
It is obvious that the Iraqi people either lack the political will to get the job done, or don't want to get the job done. They need to be put on notice.
Every human endeavor functions best with goals and a timetable. This happens in business, at home, virtually everywhere. It's time for these folks to "git 'er done" or suffer the consequences. We can't hold their hands forever.

Thats not setting goals, thats setting ultimatums. Should we leave before the job is finished? What happens if we set a date to leave and the fighting increases? That is exactly what will happen. Al Queda is hoping and praying for a withdrawl date so they can launch a massive attack before we leave in order to make it a victory for themselves so they can go back and tell everyone that they drove us out. It makes no sense. When the Iraqis are ready, believe me they will ask us to leave.

Iraq is not the USA, if they were in anyway similar we wouldn't be there, how can one expect a country like that to rebound from being destroyed on all levels (government, social, economic, etc..).
We built the Iraqi people a nice castle to live in, they should be thankful, too bad we built it on top of a swamp...

and if the Iraqis are not ready when the democrats say they should be? Then we have another terrorist state who can and will train terrorists to kill us. If there is a civil war, the Iranians and other Islamic fundamentalists will move in and take over, and use that state as an antiwestern terrorist state, too. Of course, the democrats are incapable of seeing that or learning from history. They are too busy giving funds to crack whores.

As usual, John Shows up to either insult or agree...never any answers. Anyhow, this is a great question, but then, I am a suporter of goal oriented time tables. As I was with welfare when Clinot imposed them...successfully...
