They are threatening to cut funding to the war if Bush exercises his veto option with this bill. This bill is loaded with Liberal Pork, and really doesn't do anything to end the war or help the troops or anything else.

It is electioneering, because they have set a September 2008 deadline for troop removal from Iraq.

Personally, I think it is so the elections will be over before the real fallout occurs. Hopefully American voters will see right through this, and vote accordingly.

This is not what they are doing. They have made sure that no troops currently in Iraq will suffer from lack of funding. The funding they are putting in question is for future operations and future troop deployment. I know this has become a favorite talking point of Bushies, but they either haven't read the bill or they just repeat rhetoric that simply is not true.

The Democrats have NOT pulled funding from our troops in Iraq or attached conditions to funding that will negatively affect those already on the ground. The only way those on the ground are affected is that once the funding runs out for their operations they will have to be returned home. They will not suffer loss of financial support while they are there that will put them in any danger at all. If you would take the time to understand what this funding is all about YOU might be much happier.

Like it or not, Bush signs this bill he gets the money and actually more money than he even asked for. The ball is in his court, this country's majority opinion is that we need a deadline. He's lucky there isn't a demand to bring the troops home NOW instead of giving him a year and a half to complete that task.

Well, I guess it depends on how you look at it. Others would look at this and say that bringing the troops home would make them safer... They're not trying to take money away from then, they're just putting in language to set timetables (and a bunch of pork, which is a political tool that both sides use so I don't want to here it - the rep congress set a record for that).

This situation if effed up, no matter what we do. Don't try and blame the dems to try and put a stop a complete mess that wasn't started by them.

Congress has voted to fully fund the troops and the war effort. They have also voted against a never ending open end war.

Bush is 600 billion dollars and 4 years into a $68 billion dollar and 6 month project. It's time to pull the plug. He is way past what Congress authorized.

Get your facts straight! Congress is willing to give the troops better training, better equipment and better treatment. They are providing more money for the troops than the president asked for in his request. The only thing that Congress insists is that we find a way to get out of this win-less war.

Since when did they take away support? They authorized the Iraq War spending bill with their votes!

They voted for bringing HOME the troops by next March!

I am happy for that, My brother (in the Army) is happy for that....but Bush doesn't like that, so he will veto the bill...thus keeping the cycle of violence a-churning until the next president comes into office in 2009!

So I ask you, where do you think you get the idea that Congress doesn't support the troops? (PS: just because they don't support the WAR in Iraq it doesn't mean Congress doesn't support our men and women in Uniform!!!)

Sorry Grandma, but they gave Bush every penny he wanted and more. They just put a timetable on the withdrawal of troops by March 2008. Bush will have every penny he wants unless he vetoes the bill, which he can carry on his own conscience. The majority of Americans favor a timetable for leaving Iraq, so Congress is acting on their behalf. Also, the Senate and the House make up Congress, so the Senate and Congress are the same thing.

Yes.

There have to be some limits placed on how Iraq's occupation is being run. Bush and the repub controlled Congress have had a blank check and free reign for 5 years. With poor results.

They need oversight and to be held accountable for SOLID results. The heat is on.

First, Congress is the House and Senate.

Second, if they actually did cut all (or even most) military funding that would be awesome. I'm not looking forward to the additional costs of paying off the debt in the future due to all of this wasted money.

You are mistaken. The House and Senate approved an Iraq spending bill. I suggest you do a little reading before posting here.
