I got home to find a FEDEX envelope, and inside was a travelers check from AAA made to me for $3000, but I never ordered them. I called AAA and asked them, and they sadi, "Well you must have ordered them" and i said " I never did", so I just deposited it to my account. Can I get in trouble for this??

That was a very unwise thing to do, you should NEVER deposit anything questionable in you bank account.

Oh, yeah...

If it's just a mistake, and they went to you when they should have gone to Antonio P. who lives on the next street over, you knowingly took funds that didn't belong to you. Better call AAA NOW and tell them what you did, and ask how they should be repaid. They can trace where they went (and they will) because FedEx will have a record of where they were delivered, even if you didn't sign for the package.

Another option is that it was part of some sales pitch or scam, and you've just purchased something that will cost even more than $3K. Did you save the paperwork? Did you look at it closely? Read the fine print and find out if you just agreed to pay $10,000 for a $4000 car or piece of art or some such. I've received stuff like that before - by depositing the check, you agree to sign up for the overpriced service that they are selling.

Either way - you better scramble to find out what you did, and see if you can't correct it or cancel it.

Depends upon the fine print that came along with the check. By depositing the check, you may have actually agreed to a loan, with exorbitant interest rates and and steep re-payments. Or, if the check was really supposed to go to someone else, you might have to pay the $$ back, as you have been "unjustly enriched." If it was supposed to be something that you ordered, I doubt that any thing you might have "ordered" would come to you for free.

In trouble? No. But you may have to give the money back at some point. Depositing the money is fine, but don't spend it yet.

Yep. Cashing the cheque could be seen in court as agreeing to sell whatever the payment is for.

You're just a low life thief. Make sure you tell your Navy Recruiter about this one as well.
