sin(180) = 0 and
cos(180) = -1

Therefore,
[1-1/4(cos180-j*sin180)] / [1-1/2(cos180-j*sin180)] =
[1-1/4(cos180)] / [1-1/2(cos180)] =
[1+1/4] / [1+1/2] =
[5/4]/[3/2] =
5/6 =
.83333333

I am also unable to get the answer 0.833. Instead I get the answer 3/4.

cos180= -1
sin180= 0
j^0 = 1
Substituing
[(1)-((1/4)(-1 -1))]/[(1)-((1/2)(-1 -1))] = (3/2)/(2) = 3/4

A minus sign is a minus sign and not a fraction separator in
a function.

= [1 - 1 / 4.(-1)] / [ 1 - 1/2(-1) ]
= [5/4] / [3/2]
= [5/4] x [2/3]
= 5/6

Okay. sin 180 = 0. cos 180=-1.

So your expression becomes:
[1-1/4(-1-0)]/[1-1/2(-1-0)], which you can simplify and see is 5/6=.8333333.
