ME? I've never been dumped.
Sounds like you were dumped...you certainly sound very bitter.
And "Dust in the Wind" is correct. BOTH sexes are subject to negative stereotypes in commercials and the media.
They portray men as the "punchline." The clueless goof... to sell toilet bowl cleaner and carry-out pizza.
They portray women as soulless, mindless "bodies", vapid automatons of sex in order to sell cologn, men's hair dye, and underwear, makeup, etc.

I am not empowered by this kind of thing. Perhaps some women are. I personally believe Jerry Springer is as real as professional wrestling (which means NOT).
I agree that there is a general negative factor to advertising regarding both genders. I have gone so far as to refuse to purchase an item when their commercials have been over the line in this area.

I both agree and disagree with your comments – I agree that men are portrayed in a stereotyped image that is getting worse. They are portrayed as commitment phobic, goofy (often in a dumb kind of way), sex crazed (or sex starved if they are married), sport fanatics and often with mother issues. I don’t look to the media for my ideals of a man (I look to my family, friends and boyfriend for that). But I have to also disagree with you because I think women are also portrayed in a stereotyped image (although women’s gender roles have gotten better over the past 20 years). Television does not always empower women … the image of women obsessed with shoes, using sex to get what they want, scheming to get men into a marriage, going to the mall, crying, and talking on the phone is not empowering. These roles are often used for comic effect so I suggest not tying to find deep meaning in such a shallow medium.

This is exactly the reason I get rid of my television. Too many stupid craps on it today. Never regret getting rid of it.
If you want to stay one step ahead of 99% of population, read a lot books on psychology. That way people will end up regret it if they try to make you look like a idiot.
Here's story you may like. One time I was sorta see this girl, however I found out she was try to lead me on. So I found out where she work (smoothie bar) and I went to the place and pretend to read menu for a while. I can see from corner of my eyes, she was talk to few of her friends and giggles. So I went to make a order then she tried to act all nice and friendly. I just turn and walk away like as if I never notice her. When my order was complete, I went to pick it up, she tried to wave at me, I look at her like as if she's a idiot and grab my drink and walk away. Her face was so priceless! Later that night I got a angry email from her lol.
See... You can easily use women's ego against them if you know how to do it.

Riiiight, because women are portrayed so well on TV and in movies. I've always noticed that for the few male characters who are portrayed as idiots, it's either because a) the man is the only funny one, and b) no matter how fat, ugly, or stupid they are, they still have a beautiful, intelligent wife who babies them.
And there are plenty more intelligent male characters than there are stupid ones.
Oh wait... what the f*ck are you talking about for the rest of your question?

The media is not a good way to learn about life. If watching telly makes you feel angry, you shouldn't be watching it. If you continue watching it, don't take anything they say personally.
Empowerment is not about hating another gender, it's more about feeling good about yourself and your own self-worth.
Ads are usually based on spoofs of stereotyping. They're meant to be funny, not to be taken seriously. :-)
