Okay first of all I used to work at a tanning salon, so I don't want to come off arrogant but I do know what I'm talking about.

First things first DO NOT and I repeat DO NOT start at 10 minutes or more. That's absurbed and most salons won't even let you start that high off! I recommend starting at 6 minutes. Let that be your gage. If you fry then allow your skin to heal and try again with 4 minutes. If you're slightly pink, allow your skin to heal and go again at 6 minutes until you are no longer pink. Then increase in 2 to 3 minute increments. It's not a race, you'll only hurt yourself. Give yourself plenty of time to build a base effeciantly.

No you do not use sunblock or baby oil. Both of those products actually damage the acrylic on the beds. It breaks the acrylic down so much the salon has to replace them. So scientists have devleoped specific lotions that are titled "accelarators", because that's exactly what they do.

There are three types you can choose from: Bronzer which has a tint in it (doesn't streak or show where you didn't apply) just accelarates the process. Tingle factor, which circulates your blood flow and enables the pigment to quickly develop. STAY AWAY from that you're not an experienced tanner and you'll think your on fire. Then there is a cooling agent. These have menthol in them that allow you to remain cool while you're tanning.

Hope this helps and remember to allow yourself enough time to build a tan. It's not going to take just 2 times, it will take several times a week.

Ask the person at the tanning salon what is the best tanning lotion to use for your skin. Don't waste you money on a whole bottle of the stuff before you try, get like a $3 sample first to make sure you like it.
If you say you are really white I would start at maybe 10-13 minutes and work my way up.. Most tanning places will not let you tan more than 20 minutes at a time.

Don't be afraid to ask the person running the check-in desk. They will be more familiar with how powerful their beds are. Typically you would just start out really short like 3-5 minutes for the first 2 or 3 days. Then increase by a minute or two for a few more days. Keep doing this until you reach the max minutes for that bed and then just maintain until you get the tan you want. To keep your tan you may just have to go back every other day or every 2 days. Please try not to get impatient because if you burn then you can kiss your tan goodbye. It will peel away.

I would use a indoor tanning lotion that the tanning salon sells. Those with hemp are really good. Don't expect to pay less than 20.00 for a good bottle.

if u go to a reputable tanning salon, the attendent will be able to explain how everything works, what type of lotion to use, etc...u have to use lotion specifically made for use in the tanning bed, u can`t use regular tanning lotions because some of the ingredients damage the acrylic shield that u lay on in the bed...i would start out at a short amount of time in the bed, maybe just 2 or 3 minutes & gradually work your way up, so u don`t end up with a nasty burn...today`s beds are extremely powerful, it doesn`t take much to end up uncomfortably toasted!!! hope this helps!!! good luck & enjoy mexico!!!

Well I hope you are going to a tanning salon and they will tell you how long you should go for and what bed would be best for your skin type. You should also buy a good tanning lotion from them and put it on before you get in the bed. To make sure your skin will hold the tan you need to moisturize. I suggest at lest once a day, like after you get out of the shower. You should also wear eye protection. Now if you want to maintain the tan you will need to go to the tanning bed at lest once a week after you get a base tan. To get the base tan you will need to go 2 or 3 times a week. Good Luck!

If you are going to go tan, just let them know it's your first time. Typically you will want to go a few times before your trip. If you've never fake baked before, you will probably go in for a few minutes maybe 5-7 depending on the bed settings. They may suggest a lotion which will enhance the tan. If you start to feel Tingley - GET OUT. That means you are starting to burn, and then you're just miserable. Be sure to wear protective eyewear too.

Good Luck!

DON"T use sunblock... use a tanning lotion... you can buy it at the tanning salon.

The time depends on the strenght of the bed. Ask the employee for advice. Some people can start at 15 others burn at 10 minutes... there are many factors.

I completely agree with Sallyfrm. Do NOT start out at ten minutes. I'm dark complected and I don't start out at ten minutes.
