First, a qualifier. As others have said, I certainly hope this never happens. Japan is out greatest ally in Asia, and one of our two greatest allies in the world. They are a great nation with a wonderful history, a rich culture and a hard-working, friendly polulation.
If war were to break out, particularly if it were a no-holds-barred war, the U.S. would certainly prevail. All we would need to do is drop nuclear weapons and we could easily wipe out all of Japan. The "war" would likely end within one day. Of course, we would also radiate a significant part of Asia, and possibly beyond. And we would anger the rest of the world. So, let's pretend we didn't use any nuclear weapons. We could also use chemical or biological weapons, which have been outlawed by international agreement. Again, we could kill much of the country very quickly, as well as doing great harm to Japan's neighbors. So we'll also eliminate those from consideration.
As said by an earlier responder, Japan has only a relatively small self-defense force. Japan is limited in the number of planes, ships and military personnel it may have. That limit was imposed by the surrender treaty Japan signed after its defeat in World War II. The U.S. has a huge, modern military. We have the latest in airplanes, ships, ground force equipment and weapons. We have quite a large and highly-trained military. If we brought all of these resources to bear against Japan we would surely prevail.
The two biggest unknowns are, how long the war would take and if any other countries would come to the aid of Japan.

When you say "waw" I assume you mean to say "war", right?

If Japan and America start a war, which one will win?

Japan has a strictly defensive military and no atomic bombs (although they do have the ability to make them), while America's military is both defensive and offensive (certainly the offensive is being demonstrated most often) and the United States has atomic bombs, so the United States would definitely win if they went to war with Japan right now.

However, the United States and Japan are extremely close and value each other highly. Japan likes having the United States working on its side, especially in relation to North Korea. The United States needs Japan to keep a balance of power in Asia. The United States and Japan are strong allies.

This particular scenario would unquestionably result in U.S. victory, but if you want a debate with more interesting analysis and opinions, you should ask "If America and China went to war, which one would win?" Both of these nations have strong military power and nuclear weapons, so there would be a lot of room for debate and discussion!

Hopefully this will never happen again. Japan and the United States are powerful allies and value each other. If war was declared, I think the US will win.

considering that Japan doesn't have an army officially save for the Self Defense Force, I don't think they'd fare too well. Besides, other asian nations burning over past WWII atrocities would probably attack Japan before the US did.

However if Japan mobolize the secret Gundamn forces they've been building underground all these years, the ninja, and call on Godizall and Mothra, then they'd have a fighting chance.

If it was a military war, the US. If it was an economic war, Japan. Japan would only need to call in the loans it made to the US in the 80's Reagan era and the US would fold.

The 50000 or so US military people based in Japan means that the SDF would really be starting with their foot in a hole.
