Fairytales can make one day dream of love and peace. Then there are those who dream of conquest and domination. Look at religion "THE BIBLE TELL ME SO" yet this is one of the biggest fairytales that we have. When a fairytale turns deadly like the crusades, Hitler, Burning times, is it not time to put an end to the story? The Tale of "Christian Teaching" needs to come to an end. Killings in the world because of someone's fairytale needs to be stopped.

Read The Uses of Enchantment: The Meaning and Importance of Fairy Tales by Bruno Bettelheim.
He is an award winning child psychiatrist that strongly believes that listening to folk tales are an important part of a child's developing psyche.
Great book! Explains the Freudian concepts underlying some to the most popular stories.

Fairytales are stories with a lesson to be learned! Like the 3 little pigs and the little boy who cried wolf! It is a softer way of looking at things

Old fashion fairy tails were ways to warn children (& innocent) without being brutally honest. These usually ended in tragedy so that it would teach people to fear.
Disney took many of the old fashion fairy tails and gave them happy endings. "Little Mermaid" by Hans Christian Anderson ended with the Little Mermaid committing suicide and the Gods made her into sea foam for all to remember the perils of unrequited love. In the Disney version, Daughter reconsolidated with her father and got the Prince largely because of teamwork amongst her friends & guardians. I love this idea of using the stories to give us hope and repair ourselves. The down side is when people don’t balance this out with other lessons in life.
Vampire stories were largely to warn young maidens of charming old men who were really monsters inside. Vampires have the powers to put their victims under spells through their charms and good looks. The reflection of vampires is absent because they’re vain and their true reflections (intentions) would paralyze those who saw it. Garlic, steaks thought the heart, & Christ are all ways to rid vampires. Garlic creates bad breath & creates skin smells so vampires stay away from these. Piercing the heart is another way to rid vampires (it is more metaphoric than action), and lastly Christ in his true love will keep a vampire away. Even with the terror old vampires did, the writer also gave us insight of the agony the vampire experienced which is a empty lonly life filled with corspes of what the vampire desired. Modern day portraits of vampires put the society under the spell of this type of creature instead of repel them as the stories used to; which I believe is bad for us.

Well, I can tell you what influence fairy tales had on me. As a child my ambition was to read every fairy tale in the library, and I think I may have done that.
Each fairy tale ends: "They married and lived happily ever after."
I was so influenced by that that I believed that once I married I would live happily ever after. What a shock when after I married, problems came up one after another. Where was the promised "happily ever after?"

Fairy tales, sadly shape the beliefs of some people. Giving people lost hope, making them believe what they never should have believed.

It could give a poor image about love and relationships with "happily ever after" and true love.
Expectations may be misplaced

Like a damsel in distress.
