For instance, if I open Firefox, then look at Task Manager, it shows two Firefoxs open. Please help, it's freezing my comp.

Most likely, you have a virus. Get some virus detector/protector program and see if you have any viruses. That's the only problem that I think it could be.

Check to see if opening the program with one click on the icon is set, if it is then clicking twice will open the program twice.

Could it be that you have your mouse button set too sensitive and thus any double-click gets picked up too quickly?

You are probably double-clicking when you should be single-clicking.
