Hello I am 18, failing Sixth Form Education and from the UK...I am unhappy, disheartened and oppressed in UK and need a new life! I have heard bout 1 Year Work and Holiday Permits in Australia and am thinking of catching a flight, renting accomodation and finding a job. What else do I need to do and also are there any other countries that offer such wonderful visa's for young people? I know that I still have to come back to UK but I need to meet new people and see a part of the world........I was thinking of going to Sydney but where would it be easier for a low income person such as myself to live?

In terms of the phrasing 'low income' I would advise against Sydney outside of visiting - it's the most expenisve city to live, I know because I just moved from there purely because I couldn't afford the rental prices!
Check out realestate.com.au and just chuck in some random suburbs making sure you check where they are on a map aswell in relation to where you want to be. (A good map site is whereis.com.au.)
For jobs all over australia check out seek.com.au or mycareer.com.au. I believe one of them has an option for backpackers too if that helps but I forget which one.
Where ever you end up in Australia you'll have fun - if you want to meet more people, from personal experience go to smaller towns. A random idea - go out to a bush town and work as a farm hand or jackaroo (jillaroo if you're female) for something completely different. They need all the help they can get given the drought so you'd be a welcome hand.

Sydney is well worth seeing, but as far as costs go, it is probably the most expensive part of the country. You will find it cheaper to go almost anywhere else in Australia.
Many European tourists find work in the fruit picking industry. This is seasonal work, but you can move around the country and there is usually something to be picked somewhere. As you follow the work, it gives you an opportunity to see parts of Australia outside the big cities, and the cost of living is generally much better. It is hard physical work, though, and the pay rates are never wonderful. The other catch is that there have been drought conditions through much of the country, so I am not sure if there is as much fruit to be picked as would normally be the case.
