I only hear this phrase in the mountains, when I'm with a group of guys who plan on shredding their knee sliders throughout the day. Riding hard, at least on sport bikes, means to get aggressive and begin to lay the bike down lower, and faster into high-speed turns.

...another reference would be to riders who "lost it" by "riding too hard." Ride too hard and the pavement is going to bite you. Every bike has its limits.

It is usually used as a term to mean for a long time. Not stopping for every potty break, to enjoy the scenery, that sort of thing. Only stopping when you need to get more gas, and doing it for 10 to 18 hours at a stretch.

Maybe riding a lot, abusing the bike or topping the limits. Good question with many answers.

To me it means sucking it up and putting in some hard miles. Like 800 to 1000 a day or more. Running WFO with minimal stops.
