Do I contact art museums,or get my own website going or what?

Start my own website? And what is involved in that? Contact Art Agents? And how are prints made of original pieces? It's been my lifelong dream to be an artist-just never knew how to get started. I just read this saying..."Talent is a gift from GOD, using that talent is giving the gift back to GOD." Well I'm ready to start using it..Any advice would help.

Hey Spoon,

Museums would not be a good way to spend your time and effort. A personal web site is very good, and here are a few artist sites where you can post your work.

I suggest that you do get your own site up and running (whether you sell work on it or not is up to you) the exposure this will gain you is invaluable and can serve as a wonderful reference point for your bio, contact information and further examples of your work. Also, join as many free or low cost online forums, sites (deviantart, elfwood, artwanted) and galleries as you can to place your portfolios in front of anyone and everyone. It is best to be choosy- only pick those sites pertaining to your type of work. This way you know you will find the correct audience. Make sure to "drop" the link to your personal site anywhere possible and include it on any business cards you may have. I would not approach museums unless they invite local artists to show their work. I would however contact any local galleries. The key is to get out there and market yourself as much as possible.
I hope I've helped a little. Good luck to you! :)

You own website could certainly be one way to go, but I would really recommend contacting some local or area art galleries about possibly doing a show. That will get you some immediate exposure, especially if a newspaper covered the show.

Also, websites such as www.deviantart.com are great for beginning (and pro) artists wanting exposure. Best wishes!

Actually, anywhere you can.

Look for places (like small businesses) that will display them to fill space and add atmosphere. If the location is secure, do it for free. Just get them out there. You never know who will walk by.

Coffee shops, doctors, dentists, florists, be creative when thinking.
Put a card with them to give your contact info/website
