As a conservative I oppose Bush for the following:
1. Mismanaged the war in Iraq
2. Allowed Bin laden to escape
3. Should have fired or allowed to quit Rumsfeld BEFORE the election.
4. Been a friend to illegal aliens
5. Done nothing to encourage alternatives to foreign owned oil.
6. Exported jobs outside of the US
7. Recklessly pro-Israel.
He is the antithesis of a true conservative.
He was reelected in 2004 because the choice was Bush or Kerry and his Hollywood America-haters. The election was a choice been the lesser of two weasels.

Funny, I hadn't heard that. Maybe they're just upset that he's not giving the Liberal Democrats the flogging that they so richly deserve. After all, they are trying to pull off the same kind of bug-out that they did in Vietnam, they have stuffed the troop funding bill so full of PORK for all their favorite little giveaway programs, and they just can't tell the truth about anything.
As for his performance, the economy is up, unemployment is down, by cutting taxes the tax revenue actually increased, and he's proven that the Democrats, and especially the liberals know absolutely nothing about running a government, and are mainly a bunch of cowardly losers who couldn't draw a straight line with a ruler.

Your going to get a lot of answers to this question.
I would say that Con Rep's are anticipating a shift in power. Odds are a democrat will be elected president in '08 and with a democratic congress it makes sense that they disassociate themselves with Bush now rather than later, that way they can retain power (senators and congress persons).
In a more general sense the bible belt probably regrets reelecting Bush into power seeing as his entire presidency has been run by Neo Cons. He failed to utilize congress to accomplish anything while it was controlled by republicans. He didn't ask Congress OR the UN for permission to kill thousands of Americans in Afganistan and Iraq.
Bush dropped the ball basically.

I can't remember one Conservative saying President Bush was a true conservative. They said he came closer to conservatism than anyone else. Conservatives all over the country groaned when he used the "compassionate conservative" slogan. Fiscally, immigration, he's not a Conservative.

He ran as a conservative, but he didn't practice what he preached. Conservatives are for smaller government, responsible spending, less taxes. etc. Bush did not veto a single spending bill that came across his desk. Government is getting bigger and more intrusive rather than smaller. The only "conservative" thing he did was cut taxes.

I voted him in both times. You libs have such a narrow view of things. These Conservatives you speak of are backing away to further their political careers. The Dem's have criminalized Bush. Any association w/ Bush is seen as a career killer.

Big deficits, huge governments, and massive scandals are what today's conservative leaders represent.
30 to 40 years ago it was a different story. Look at them now. Illicit acts, loose conduct, infidelity for days, elections fraud, bribery, and Cheney's treasonous act against the CIA. What a crowd.
It wouldn't be so bad if conservatives did not try to defend these evil, insidious leaders they now have. They just keep saying "She wasn't undercover" "Look at Clinton" "Its only a witch hunt".

Because more and more people are beginning to disagree with Bush's policies. They don't want to side with him because the polls are dropping on Bush and Bush can't be re-elected but they can. They want to distance themselves from the negative views people are getting about Bush.
