It depends on the urgency of the subject:
Urgent: clear, to the point. Now.
Anything else: language can be fun! A serious subject should not be obfuscated, but a little additional clarification, while indirect, can be quite useful. Perhaps even wise.
A trivial subject can highly amusing when discussed properly, and the most awkward stuations alleviated and wiped away: good language skills (and money) are the Billy Mays Miracle Wipes of life's trivial problems.
