The leader and those in government are always the face others judge a nation by. Throw in the policies they enact and the full image is there for those to view.

This is a representative republic however, the people directly elect every person in congress. The president should take heed to the ebb and flow of public opinion.

Bush of course doesn't listen to the american people, in fact presidents should listen more to the american people they in fact elects the president. Presidents should not go there own way if the public wants war to end our president should agree. Yes he might think its not the right decision but to get public support you need to agree with the people who elected you in the first place. Bush has a really bad image because he did not do what the american people wanted.

You would think it should matter what the publics' opinion is, but unfortunately Bush has allowed the power to go to his head and congress have allowed him to use his executive power so there is nothing any of us can do about it. Thank you and may GOD come soon to right the wrongs that have been done on this earth.

you people need to figure out that public opinion is a hoax,,,,the polls can be directed to return any results desired,,
in the last election ,,we are told that the vast majority of people have spoken,, but look at the numbers,,,a landslide,,no,,
congress cant override a veto today,, so go away with your vast majority polls ,

no, the only public opinion that counts is done at the election, all others are done for entertainment only

The President SHOULD be an image of its people, but it is quite evident he is NOT!
I believe it should matter but it does not. If it did we would not be in the situation we are still in!

Technically he only represents the majority at the time of the election and only over the representation of the person he's running against. George Bush never spoke for me, but he spoke for me more than John Kerry, so I held my nose and voted for him. In reality, he represents me and my views as much as that wack job ruling Iran. I just don't know how much non-Americans understand the "temporary-ness" of it all.

While that may have been true in the past, our current Commander in Sheik has so betrayed the core values of this country that he doesn't speak for anyone who truly supports the Constitution and who respects why this country was founded.
