Hi,

I have seen a small hand-held vacuum cleaner for the car which I would like to buy.

It states that it is powered by the car's 12v cigarette lighter. I've had a look at the lighter in my car - when I remove the bit where the lighter itself should be, it is empty (no idea why), but the inside bit seems to be intact. As far as I can tell, that is.

Will the vacuum cleaner work, do you think? I don't want to buy it, only for it to be unusable!

Thanks.

Some things don't work well in cigarette lighters cos they will drain the batteries power and 12v is not really enough to power anything substantial for very long. I got given a pump which is supposed to inflate your car tyres and when plugged into the lighter, it takes an absolute age! IIt's far quicker by foot pump.

Personaly I'd buy an extension lead and use your regular household hoover.

Buying a vaccum that runs from the battery is not really that good an idea. It drains the battery and you should probably have teh engine running if your going to hoover teh whole car. So yes i think the dust buster a better idea.

I'd go with the Dustbuster too, use it often in the car (much to the better half's annoyance). For a heavy-duty clean, I use the mains machine (also unpopular)!
