How come it seems like EVERY YEAR the skins trade away their draft picks during free agency. has anyone else noticed this? They constantly pick up older players who were good with one team and then do nothing when they get here. The Skins are currently trying to give the Bears their #6 overall pick for Briggs... but if they do that they have NO other picks in the first 4 rounds. It is ridiculous. I mean sean taylor was our last good pick.

Because they dont know how to groom young talented players into NFL stars and you guys new owner wants to win, NOW. So he is willing to pass up on the teams future to bring in experienced guys. Which NEVER works. He wants to buy a superbowl and he doesnt realize that it takes more than talent to win in the NFL. The players have to build chemistry playing togethere and with the player turnover in Washington they cant do it because the players are not there long enough.

The skins Management has absolutely no respect for the draft. and Joe Gibbs is so old school, he will take a veteran over a rookie any day, witness how long he stuck with Brunell at QB, becuase he just didnt trust Unproven Jason Campbell. Besides that gibbs might be in his last season as head coach, I believe he only has 2 years left on his contract and he is old. so the mentality is not to build for the future but try and put together a team that can win now. If that is the goal I guess it some what makes sense to buy high priced free agents and trade for more known proven players than to go into the draft and build a team with youth. Its obviously not the best thing to do in terms of long term success, but it seems that everyone from head coach, front office only care about the now.

In terms of the trade if it goes through it would actually be the skins #6 overall pick for briggs and the bears #31 overall pick. its not that bad a trade, but considering the skins already have Marcus washington and signed london Fletcher. not sure what they want with another high priced linebacker. Seems like they do this every year just stock pile on one position, like last year when they got Randle el, Brandon Lloyd, and David Patten. Or they panicked and traded their 2nd rounder this year for TJ Duckett, someone they didnt even use. Personally whoever is making the personal decisions for the skins I believe are just idiots. What they need to focus on is getting some pass rushers on the defensive line, and with that #6 pick they could get a premiere guy like a gaines adams or Jammal Anderson.

The skins have a win now policy. They go after the big names who they think will bring them a Championship. It hasn't worked, but so far this offseason they made some much needed FA moves. Bring Smoot back was huge and Fletcher will be a strong addition to the team. The Briggs trade is still a rumor and hopefully won't happen. Washington doesn't need another LBer. Good ol' Drew has everyone beleiving this is a done deal. Not so... Just yesterday Gibbs was talking about trying to move up in the draft to get CJ, another dumb move when the Skins picked up Randle El and Lloyd last year. I beleive this is all hype the skins will either pick Adams at #6 or trade back get some more picks and take the best DL available.

That's been the Redskins way of doing business since the early 80's at least and it used to work prior to free agency. You are wrong about this one though, the trade would include Briggs and the #31 pick. Considering Briggs age and performance the last couple years it does seem to be a much better idea then drafting a rookie with only 50/50 chance of him being a quality starter. The Redskins biggest misstakes have always come in free agency from Tim McGee to Adam Archeleta, though the Brunell trade wasn't good either.

Unfortunatly, Snyder is one of the few men in the buisness who makes a lot of picks based on hunches and gut feelings. This means that he sees a guy like Rocky McIntosh who is a poor mans Jon Beason, and thinks, hey if he was more productive, he could have been a 1st rounder. And you just can't do that. He also doesn't understand the value of the draft pick. Rocky McIntosh could have been obtained with a 2nd round pick and a 4th round pick. It was absoultely moronic of him to use 2 2nd rounders. A lot of people have trouble understanding the same thing, draft picks are extremely valuable. For example, Redskins RB Clinton Portis would have trouble warranting a 1st round pick, as would Former Skin Lavarr Arrington have trouble getting a 3rd. Injuries become a major factor.

Daniel Snyder's philosophy is to raid other teams veterans and try to make a cohesive team (like the Yankees). Snyder is impatient and does not want to wait for a player to develop and possibly get burned (i.e. Patrick Ramsey). He would rather toss millions at a mid-level player from another team (who obviously does not want him) than risk paying millions on unproven talent.

This is flawed because it is impossible to create a team when players are constantly being brought in.

Since his style has not worked, he should go to the other extreeme and get young. He could pull a Mike Ditka and trade all his draft pick for a season and go after the top player. Or he could be like the Patriots and focus on later round picks. Trade his 1st and 2nd round picks for more picks later. He could probably end up with 4-6 extra picks.

Every 'skins fan I know has commented on this & most of us aren't happy about it. The trade for Briggs is news to me, I thought they were trying to trade down for extra picks in the middle rounds. I thought giving up this yrs #2 to move up in the 2nd round was stupid. Rocky would probably have still been on the board at #53 overall & there were plenty of other good LB's available.
I think Carlos Rogers was a good pick & Kedrick Golston was a pleasant surprise last year.

With Randy Thomas and Chris Samuels in all probability to retire, the Redskins could have extra urgent needs than QB. Jason Campbell will proceed to be on the roster, with Colt Brennan because the back-up. besides the indisputable fact that, if 2010 is an uncapped 3 hundred and sixty 5 days, the Skins will manage to pay an outstanding purchase more effective than all of us else to signal whoever they opt for.

Because they believe they are the Yankee's of football. They still believe that they can buy a championship every year, and every year they are proven wrong. They trade away all their draft picks because they have no patience for training and developing players, and instead believe that they can buy players who are more experienced and plug them immediately into their system to produce a Superbowl team today instead of building for the future. They never seam to realize that just because a player was good in 'Pittsburgh's system doesn't mean the player will be good in the Redskin's system.

True the Skins do this every year, but Briggs would be a great addition for the Redskins, at least for his talent. I live in Chicago so of course I'm a Bears fan, and trust me Briggs is a monster but so is his ego. Amazing player but he can't stand the thought of him being in Urlachers shadow so he wants out, Washington would be a great place for him.
