The Hewlett Packard Compaq Presario SR1603WM comes with AMD Sempron 1.8 GHz processor. Features hard drive with 80 GB capacity. Offering 256 MB RAM capacity.
Motherboard
Manufacturer: ASUS
Motherboard Name: A8AE-LE
HP/Compaq motherboard name: AmberineM-GL6E
Processor Upgradability : Upgradable
Max Supported RAM : 4 GB
I believe the largest processor you can use is the 2.2Ghz.. I couldn't find 1 with a L2 higher than 128. I don't recommend that. At least 512 L2.

According to the HP/Compaq (same company) tech support website, the motherboard is an AMD supporting Socket 939 mobo (motherboard). Namely the ASUS A8AE-LE, or as HP/Compaq call it, the 'AmberineM-GL6E'.
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00496280&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=&product=1831241
As long as the computer is relatively new and doesn't need the motherboard BIOS 'flashed', it will support any AMD processor that is Socket 939.
This includes offerings from AMD such as the AMD Athlon64, AMD Sempron/Sempron64 and Athlon 64 X2 processors, as well as the AthlonFX premium range.
Just make sure it's a 939 socket processor.
If you think you may need a BIOS flash, read the info at this link:

Hope this info helps.

looks to me like you got it.
I'd need to know more about your motherboard, to see if you can put anykind of 64 bit socket 939 processor in it.
