You are putting the cart in front of the horse. Before you start thinking about a career, you need to get your thinking in order. You need to talk to a mental health professional. Note that I am NOT saying that you are "crazy" (whatever that means), but you clearly have some mental blocks you need to work through before you can make important decisions...

Welcome to my world....I am around the same age and have no clue wht I want to do, and like you I have held a couple of jobs.

One way to do it ..is to look into some profession you admire, and do some background work on it. Talk to a few people who are in that job, and see if that suits you...and then try your hand at it . Caution: Every job has its cons...and its important not to pay heed only to the most cynical of people working the job

Another way is to take an Aptitude test, it will give you some direction based on your answers as to what kind of career is suited for a personality like yours. It is worth a shot.

Volunteer in schools, libraries etc...even for a short time...or any place that has you interacting with people. You may find things about urself that will help you find your hidden traits.

Lastly, be open to the unexpected, I found volunteering in school, that I really would like to teach some day....not right now...but now I know there is something I wanns do ....

Hope this helps

something about being 28 i guess, i'm in a similar position but i finished college. It seems a lot of people are undrstandably wary of us. Why are we such lazy rabbits? Why havn't we done much by now? Now you're not even welcome at those crap jobs that you used abused and left because they sucked. Now they want to know why a healthy white man wants to assit manage a mcdonalds or some other minumum wage job. And what do you say? Because i'm insecure, i'm a drug addict, there's no legitimate reasons to think of for why i'd want to work here, to tell you the truth i most certainly don't want to work here, but i have to do something.

The bet advice i've heard is to do it yourself. Pull something out of the earth refine it and sell it. Find another group of outcasts and start your own company or store. Stick out your neck and take a business loan. We have no place in this society, we must make our own.

Think about what you're good at and things you would enjoy doing. Write them down. Then think about things you'd like to do, but may not know how to do. Looking @ both lists, decide if you'd actually be willing to undergo the necessary training and education that would be required to gain knowledge in areas that interest you. If not, then stick to what you already know. That's the first part. The second part involves researching possible careers in which you could use your skills. (requirements, job outlook, salary, etc.)

What is it you like to do? You never know...one of your hobbies may lead you towards a career path.
