Whatever happened to Soul 4 Real, Boyz II Men, Shai, Jodeci, New Edition, Tony! Toni! Toné!, SWV, XScape, etc? I loved the good soul groups of the 90's, and it seems they have all disappeared or have gone more hip-hop. I love hip-hop too, but when I want some real soulfull r&b it seems I always have to hear some rapper over it unless I listen to something more oldschool.
I guess there is no real answer to this question, but wondering if any of you feel the same.
P.S. Heard Boyz II Men has a new album... wonder if it is any good...

I kind of wondered that, too because even though I was a little kid in the 90's, I do remember those groups. Very few of them do occasionally come out with new stuff, but it doesn't seem like it would ever be the same as before. Meaning if they were popular back then they're not anymore. I think most of them moved on though & took on other career moves.

I know right? What happened to them? Those were the days real music was made and no one paid attention to bubble gum crap because they were traumatized by the Milli Vanilli Scandal. As time passed I guess people lost interest in them because boybands replaced that trend. True r&b lovers will never forget them while pop people just go through a different set of CD's every decade. It's sad coz like one day they were hot and the next they were has beens trying to make ends meet. Although I know some could still be around probably writing songs, producing albums, producing concerts. Just unknown, unrecognized and forgotten. Maybe most of them were not able to withstand the tides of a showbiz/music career which involved rumors, wifestealers, drugs, sex with a nauseating combination of keeping up with the latest trends, staying fit, looking nice for the camera and trying to please your fans. Some just got old and fat and returned to using drugs. Some spent all their earnings on a divorce and just got too depressed to come back. Some got so many women pregnant that they're in hiding. Some went to college and led normal lives in peace. It could also be a choice as well as an evolution.

I feel the same way as you. I think I have leaned more toward Neo Soul as a substitute, but nothing will be quite the same as the first time I heard Stay by Jodeci or sitting in my room listening Coolyhighharmony over and over again.

I don't know if you like Musicsoulchild but he is really good. Kinda that oldskool feel. Tweet is good too.

The soul/R&B groups are getting drowned out by the lame *** rappers of today, much like awesome rock groups of the 80s got drowned out by alternative groups like Nirvana and Pearl Jam...
