So where is it located? Is it external easily seen or is it inside the transmission?

It depends on the vehicle in question. You didn't state the year, make, or model of the vehicle you are referring to. Some are mounted externally on the transmission bellhousing, as others have already suggested. On some other models it may be a "concentric" type slave cylinder, which requires transmission removal to access. Hope this helps.

In most cases, the slave cylinder is located just outside the transmission. It's purpose is to actuate the clutch release bearing assembly. The slave cylincer acts as direction of motion changing device. They are simple cylinders with only a couple of seals and a dust cover. The system must be bled of all air after servicing as is the case with any hydraulic system.

There are some Cars Which house the slave cly. inside the bellhousing as a part of the release bearing assembly. But Alot of newer cars have them in various locations check your owners Manual Or A Repair Manual For Your Make & Model Would Be Better.

It depends on make and model. Some cars and SUVs have a slave cylinder and throwout bearing combined and some have the slave cylinder mounted externally on the bell housing.

It is external (on 98% of all cars except some weird Saabs) usually on the side of the bell housing, just behind the engine, on the driver's side. The bell housing houses your clutch, so it's between the engine and the transmission.

Clutch slave cylinder is on the side of the bellhousing, drivers side under the car.

Looks kind of like this.http://www.uneedapart.com/used_auto_parts_request/images/clutch_slave_cylinder.jpg
