This answer is in my case only... Rent is due in full by the 5th at midnight. On the 6th there is a $150.00 late fee added to your monthly rent. The $150.00 that I charge is in my rental agreement and I make my tenants initial that they are aware of it. I rarely have people paying late. If they still have not paid or made arrangements with me by the 11th I send them to eviction. I will let them pull out of the eviction process for the fee the agency charges me to start it but at least I am covered if they do not pay me and eviction is already in the process. Are you a landlord trying to come up with a good late fee penalty or are you a renter that is late on the rent???

I have heard that most give you about 4-7 days after it is due as a grace, and then charge 20-50 late fee.

Look at your lease. It will you the required amount. It may not seem reasonable, but you have to pay whatever the set fee is! You'll have to get ahead to avoid paying it every month!
