I have just been reading on the news about people getting in over their heads with these large mortgages. They are now losing their homes because they can't pay for them.

My dream house doesn't do me much good if I'm living in my car.

We just bought a house and i would never have gone for anything where the mortgage would all but drain us every month. you just have to find an affordable house that you really want. if you only look at the affordable houses, you will eventually find something you really want out of the list of houses you can afford.

One must distinguish between what one wants to do and what one can do. Of course, everyone would like to live in a house they particularly wanted. But you have to be able to pay the mortgage, and that means scrutinizing the terms before signing on the dotted line to be sure that you can do so.

I live in a house I really wanted, that I could afford. Best of both worlds. Managing your expectations is important.

Even so, job loss or layoffs could mean losing our home. The economy here is very bad.

A house that I can afford, I can always remodel in time. People are losing their homes because many have lost their jobs & can't pay their morgages anymore.Times are hard & it doesn't look like it will get any better soon.

A house I could afford, that way you could save for the house you really want. My b/f's brother-in-law and sister did that (what you're talking about). They bought a $275,000 (when they had a nice house to start with) then when they did their taxes, they had to pay in 11,000 because he took out his retirement fund to pay for the remodeling of the old house. So now their piss broke! Idiots!

A house I can afford. Right now I only have to work 20 hours a week, I love not having to work full time to support myself.

good question thank you
I would live in a house I could pay for. I would be very proud of it. If i lived in a house I couldnt afford, I would be worried all the time that someone would take it from me.
