Good point. It reminds me of a rule they had at my high school. Once you stepped foot on the parking lot you were considered "On campus" and not allowed to leave until school was out. But once you were in the building, the parking lot was considered "off campus" and going there would get you a two hour detention on Saturday... Who gets to decide that the baby is only a fetus when the mom decides to kill it, but it's a human life when someone else kills it? That just doesn't make much sense to me.

Well, I think that a lot of hairs get split regarding abortion. Like the answer Skip gave implying the death of the unborn child is murder in one case and not murder in the other.
Recognizing as I do that the country has legalized abortion, I yet find it very difficult to differintiate between the two acts, if considered separate from the legal aspects.
In one case, the mother agrees with the person killing the unborn child and the doctor performs the assault, legally.
In the other case, the mother does not agree with the person killing the unborn child and a criminal performs the assault, illegally.
Net result, the unborn child is dead in both cases.
So the abortion issue isn't really about killing or not killing an unborn child. It is about the will of the mother and the protection of the person killing the unborn child under law.
The issue of abortion is very multi-faceted.
The rights of the mother have been made pre-eminant. I wonder though who will stand in defence of the unborn child. In some cases the father has tried, unsuccessfully to be that person.
For me, the net result is that abortion, in spite of the benefits some would attribute to it, has degenerated into a case of "Ooops...got caught...birth control".
These are just opinions in general, and I haven't yet determined where I stand on the legalization of abortion. Strange to admit that, but it is very complicated and I haven't been able to come to terms with it yet.

you took away her right to choose. Maybe you should stop punching pregnant women in the stomach. BTW, have you read the language on the bill? It defines life the same way for both instances.

First of all, if you punch a pregnant woman in the stomach it's called a CRIME. It's not legal. In particular, it's assault and you get prison time for it, just like you should. As far as the baby is concerned, that is her choice to call it a baby and carry it to term, not yours to make. If you don't like abortion, don't have one. As far as lecturing to others what they should or shouldn't do with their lives or their uterus, it's none of your business. I wouldn't insist that you get a vasectomy or castrated to prevent pregnancy? No, that's your choice what happens to your body or what you do with it.

Because our government was run by radical religious zealot Republicans who hate America and American freedom when that law was passed. I also find it telling that you didn't find it significant that punching a woman in the stomach should get you arrested for assault.

Yes, unless she consents to the attack.
The issue abort freedom of choice is that the mother can choose either way -- to remain pregnant or to terminate the pregnancy. And nobody can legally take that choice away from here, either way.
