http://www.Bookcrossing.com/

The site suggests you "set your book free". You register the books on the site and receive a unique number. That way, when someone finds it and checks the site, you will know it's been found. You can also announce when/where you free your books, check for releases, and trade with other registered users. The website is free to register with and use.

Also check out the BookRelay. People offer books by genre, theme, or format. The books are free. You have to offer a book for trade in order to accept another user's offer. The site is free to use.
