Alright I need 2 names for the main characters in my story.

Female:
Scienctist (just out of college) (major in marine), smart, athletic, American, age: mid 20s

Male:
Military Personal, smart, strong, American, age:28

They are almost like the two main characters from The Mummy (love that movie). I love the name Evelyn, but do not wish to use it (almost like copying). Richard is cool too, but again, copying.

I think I am going to go with Dimitri for his first name, but I still need opinions!! Oh, and I wish for them to have a longer name and therefore get a nickname. (I know Dimitri doesn't fall in that category, but I just love that name)

Need first and last!! Please and Thank You!!

If you have a three syllable first name, have a short or two syllable last name. It rolls off the tongue better. Do NOT have any similar or rhyming names in your book.

Have you noticed that really strong male names are based on stones, tools, or weapons? Names like Magnum, Sam Spade, Perry Mason, Rock Hudson and such.

You can base the nickname on the LAST name of the character. If Dimitri can't be shortened, you can always use Mac (for any Mc or Mac last name), Griff (for Griffith or Griffin), or even a nickname unrelated to his name that he picked up in his youth. The natural nickname for Dimitri, unfortunately, is Dim or Dimtree. How about Dimitri Flint?

For a female graduate in marine biology, I'd suggest F. Leigh Stanhope. She could conceal her first name and NOT use it because it is too feminine. A lot of women do, you know. First name suggestions are Fern, Francis, or Francy.

Hockey Girl:

Wow! Great question! I lived in Egypt (worked at the American Embassy) for 18 months (climbed a pyramid) and am able to point out the flaws in your favorite movie "Mummy". I am very interested in seeing how this story develops - sounds interesting!

To answer your question I am providing the following suggestions:

a) Female: I am suggesting either Victoria (Vicki) Anderson or Sabrina (Bri) Adams.

b) Male: If you are bordering on "Dimitri" as an American name, then please reconsider Cameron (Cam) Elliott.

Hope this helps and have a great day!

I am a writer also & know the importance of names. My feeling is the female should have a longer name with a strong nickname too (Samantha - Sam but this is SO over used)

Female-Addison Bennett- Addi/ Alaina Price-Al/ Jacquelyn Clark Taylor - Jac or Jacqui

Male-Hamilton Nichols Stone-Nick/ Harrison Richard Cooper-Rick

Lauren for the female character, has a kind of librarian, scholarly name to it, can picture her in reading glasses.

Cole for a guy, sounds kind of jocky and athletic

oops forgot the last names. Lauren McMillan
Cole Van Dorp--strong name

Pick my answer, I want some of the royalties from the book.

Female:
Jane, Alex, Cheryl, Kyra, Alyson

Male:
Dorian, Elliot, Lawrence, Kyle

It would of really helped if you'd'a said what they look like too. Personality and appearance help with naming people. You gave one but not the other so its hard. Are they White, Latino, Pacific Islander, Black? Tall? Short? Black hair? Blonde hair? Red head? Blue? Purple? Brunette? Eye color? All that really does help.
