Right now, I have to think they're the favorite. They've just been WAY too solid since they lost the first few games of the season. Their biggest threats, in my opinion, are the Suns and the Spurs. If they make it through the West, I think they're fine against the East...then again, t they said that last year, but I think this year will tell a different story. They're better than they were last year, and I see the East as weaker this year than last.

Up until yesterday I would have said that Dallas is the team to beat in the west, and in the NBA. They have gone 61-7 in their last 68 games ( it might be 60-7 though) and durring that span they have defeated everyone in the west in their homecourt and on the road. Monst teams they have sweeped and for the top five contenders in the West that are over .500 as well. Pheonix cannot defend and if they are forced to play a half court offense, they will not be able to beat 4 times in seven game. Dallas will win in either 5 or 6. Now San Antonio will be a great game with Dallas. They can both play in a half court and they both play defense. It will be a chess match between Avery and Pop. I do believe that Dallas has more strong bench players and that will be the key for their victory. The only thing I believe that will stand in Dallas' way is the injury to Dirk. Is it bad? If so then Dallas will not be able to advance through the playoffs. If Dirk only takes a few games off and comes back, they will win. Dallas has homecourt throughout the playofs at this point, and history has said that all teams with the amount of wins that Dallas has has goten a ring. I think it would be safe to safe Dallas will take if Dirk comes back soon.

Youve got the Mavs, Suns, Spurs, and Rockets who all have a chance at winning it all. Utah is a longshot. Since the Mavs beat the Suns in last years Western Confernce Finals, they can do it again, because theyre an even better team than last year. I wouldnt be caught dead betting against the Spurs either. Yao Ming has the ability to take the Rockets deep into the playoffs, and with McGrady, its a very real possiblilty. In the East, your only 2 teams that have a shot at winning it all would be the Heat and the Pistons. I think my Cavaliers are a longshot, but I would be suprised if they made it to the Finals, and even more stunned if they won it all. That applies for Utah and for the Bulls. Just wait for this weekend, when the Mavs play the Suns in Phoenix and when the Heat play the Pistons.

When those games are done, and Im predicting Dallas over Phoenix and Detroit over Miami, then my Finals prediction would be Mavs over Pistons in 5 games. I would not be suprised if San Antonio or Phoenix makes it, and Houston has a decent chance as well, but they would lose to the team from the East, since Cleveland beat them even with Yao in the lineup, and the Cavs arent even the best team in the East. The East team stands no chance against Dallas. Ill give them a 25% chance against Phoenix, and a 35% chance over San Antonio.

Mavs over Pistons in 5-6 games.

Yup, the Mavericks should win the NBA championship this year. No doubt the Mavericks are the best NBA team this season. They have strung together numerous winning streaks this year after a poor 0-4 start. With a year under his belt, Avery is a better coach. Dirk is having an MVP like performance. The pieces are in place with Josh Howard stepping up his game, as has Terry and Stackhouse. They have the best conference record, division record, and an absurdly unbeatable home record. And of course they have the best record in the league. They will steamroll through the Spurs and Suns in the Western Conference playoffs and straight up take the East opponent to school regardless of who it is.

They're definitely the favorite but I don't think they'll get it done. I don't trust the Mavs in the post season becasue at some point every year they always fold. Last year they managed to wait til they got to the finals to do it but they still folded. The Mavs have a lot to prove going into the playoffs this year. It doesn't matter that they're the fastest team to make it to 60 games, it doesn't matter if Dirk wins MVP. Anything less than a championship this year will be a disappointment. Meanwhile right now I have the Pistons, Suns, or Spurs winning the NBA title.

There are playoff teams then there are regular season teams, Dallas is a Regular season team, they do not have it in them to get it this year and that sucks big time, the last matchup like the Dallas-Phoenix double ot was a big decider and thats why Phoenix will be in the finals against the Bulls with Kidd Canada winning finals MVP.

personally i want the suns or cavs. I want the suns because steve nash is a class act, great role model and great ball player all around. I want the Cavs to win of course because of Lebron hands down. Now to your question. I think the Mavericks are going to win because they are a great team all around. Great ball movement and teamwork on offense and defense is the key and they have it. Good question.

Unlike most other sports, the best team usually wins in the NBA.
I think they have as good a shot as anyone, but I wouldn't take them against the field.
