My 11 year old daughter refuses to wear shorts in the hot weather.
she insists on wearing long pants & jeans in the Hot weather. All of
her girlfriends & sister wear shorts all the time in the Hot weather.
They are constanly asking her how she can stand to wear pants all the time
in the hot weather. I Picked her up after school after my work on Friday and I noticed like all the other kids are all wearing shorts to school but her.
the AC in the car was broke on the ride home I had long pants on too and I was starting to get very hot and feel very uncomfortable. I told my Daughter how can you stand wearing pants all the time and I can't wait to get home and put on some shorts. When We got home I changed into my shorts. and an hour later i'm making dinner and my daughter tells me "MOM it's so hot out and I'm hot and my legs are stickying to my jeans. I told her well if you start wearing shorts you won't have that problem and you won't be hot anymore. she say's she doesn't want to wear shorts because she'll feel naked and like people will be staring at her legs etc.. My daughter is not overweight, I told her why should they stare at your legs ? you have got nice legs. she then said i just don't want to wear shorts.
Today Me and both of my daughters stoped at Kohls
they had a good sale on shorts, Me & my 13 year old daughter started picking out some new pairs of shorts . I then told my 11 year old Daughter to pick out some shorts out too for herself, but she refused even to look at that them. I yelled at her and said you can't keep wearing pants all the time in this heat. well she went back to the car. I looked at the 6 pairs of shorts that my older daughter picked out and they were cute I told her to go
back to the shorts racks and get the same 6 pairs for her sister.
Ok today it's very Hot & steamy ,it's like 90 degress out. Again my Daughter tells me again in her cranky voice "MOM it's so Hot out, I'm Hot and sweaty,
my jeans are sticking to my thighs. I then said. well I'm wearing shorts
and i'm not hot, my older daughter thinks I should make her start wearing shorts too. ? should I ?

You cannot make your daughter wear shorts. i was kind of like that when I was her age. I hated wearing tank tops because I didn't want my bra showing. I was a 36C by age 11 and guys were always staring at me. It made me so self conscious. However, as I got older, I stopped caring.
I also had a friend who was similar to your daughter. She always wore pants. My mom to this day, never wears shorts in the summer, even when it is 100 degress outside unless she's working the yard or something.
Let your daughter do what she wants. Will she wear a skirt? Is it because she doesn't like her legs?
She will sort it out on her own.

She obviously is uncomfortable wearing shorts, so why pressure her? Just continue telling her that shorts are cool and maybe she will wear them around the house at first where no one will stare at her. She has to build up her confidence first.
Also, do you point out to your children and make fun of people's legs when they are in shorts? "Oh, she's so fat. She shouldn't be wearing shorts." or "She looks great in shorts, so hot!" Perhaps you are contributing to it by making her realize that people will comment on her legs. So just let her know that having her legs out is ok and that she looks fine in them. Sounds like she is insecure and needs a bit of no-pressure encouragement.

trying to force her into wearing shorts is probably not the best route to take on this!!! yelling & threatening will only make it worse, let her decide for herself when & if she`ll wear shorts...if she truly gets too hot & uncomfortable, she`ll come around, if not well it`s her own decision!!! let her be an individual with her own thoughts & decisions...it could be worse, she could be wearing teeny-tiny miniskirts & u could be fighting off all the neighborhood boys!!! so i say, let it be, don`t force the issue & see what happens...

Maybe she just isn't comfortable with herself yet.
I remember being her age and not showing off my legs because they are thin. She should get over it soon, till then try to encourage her at home, remember, baby steps!

maybe she is not comfortable with men and boys staring at her legs. Or she is defensive of her body when she heard of child molesting, stuff like that. ask her if she is comfortable with people staring at her. ask her if she had seen news reports of missing children, molested children. or maybe she was wearing shorts one time and a guy was staring at her. or someone at school is sexally harassing her one time

you can not force her
maybe she feels uncomfotable with shorts
dont make her do anything that is un confortable
may be later on she will start wearing shorts
evryone has there own time
