No. Not under any set of circumstances, for a multitude of reasons.

Ethically : It is a perversion of basic human rights. We are not animals. We should be more evolved than that.

Realistically: It doesn't work. John McCain was captured in Vietnam, tortured and held as a POW for 5 years. He should know. He sponsored the McCain Anti-torture Bill for precisely that reason.

Historically: How do you know the person you are torturing is guilty and/ or has information? You don't. That's presumption of guilt. A violation of one of our most treasured judicial principals.

Currant Example: What about the 15 British soldiers that have been captured? Torture is is denounced by the UN. If we or Britain refuse to abide by these rules(unfortunately we are already in recent violation; see Abu Ghraib) That would give reason for Iran to torture. Do those British soldiers deserve to be tortured? NO. Would we want any US soldier to be tortured? NO.

That means torture MUST be off the table for ALL.

Most people don't like the idea of torture... unless they desperately need the information and there is a time limit.

If I had a child who had been kidnapped by a pedophile who would probably kill them when finished... and the pedo's parent or spouse knew where they might be, but refused to say. I would start cutting off their fingers with no regret or remorse until told what I need to know. So would most parents.

Yes I do, and there are so many grades of what is called torture the word should not bring anything to mind. But it does, always horrible, when in fact lots of torture is just scare and fear tactics. But we hark back to the old "pulling fingernails out" that kind of barbaric practices. Its best to get the facts, Like the "drowning" torture. They thought they were going to drown. They were not in pain. see the diff. So to save their life they talked. Good for them.

Yes...no matter how nice you ask..."Pretty Please With Sugar On Top" will you tell us your plans for a terrorist attack on the US...the MUZZIE scum will not tell.
Using torture we can gain a starting point then go get facts to confirm or deny what it is we were told...and PREVENT deaths of US citizens...hmmmm 1 muzzie terrorist tortured.......vs..........3000 US Innocents dead.....

It is just Like the Dems are physically a NO BRAINER

It is not "necessary', but certainly is a useful tool in fighting the war against terrorism. Terrorists live a life driven by hate and terror. As such, they can expect to experience their own world.
