Yes, it is on the East coast, but, it also has a west coast in the Gulf of Mexico, the only state to have two (2) coasts...
after all it is a peninsula, on the east coast... the west coast of the US has only three (3) states, not counting Alaska, they are California, Oregon, and Washington.

Florida is on the East Coast, but only half of Florida is considered to be in the Atlantic Coast Waterways, and the other half of Florida's Beaches in on the Gulf Coast. That is probably what he was referring to.

I personally consider Florida to the the South East along with Georgia, Alabama, Louisana and South Carolina.
