hi everyone. i have a male beta at home and he hasnt eaten for about a week. i have had him since new years and he was fine, but within the last week or so he hasnt been eating and he has been like layong at the bottom of his bowl just on top of the rocks and not moving at all, just breathing and then if i shake the bowl a little he will float up to the top and then kind of sink back down. it looks like he has no energy. and also like the last few days i noticed that bits of his tail are floating in the bowl. does all this mean he's dying? what can i do because i am very attached to my little blueberry and i dont want him to die.

All of these things you describe can be caussed by water quality issues. I would suggest you change the water in his bowl and see if that doesn't perk him up. Further, I would suggest that you change the water in his bowl very 2-3 days to be sure it says nice and clean. Watch your water temperature as well, they like it warner than the typical room temperature. Place him in a warm spot in the house or put a light near the bowl to help keep it warm.

First, Betas only live for about 2 years.. the only way to estimate their age is by the size and posture, Bigger is older, and they tend to have a very arched back if they're older..

That said, you may only need to do the following, a water change, remember always de-chlor the new water.
he may be very lonely, put a mirror or something reflective near the tank for a few hours a day (no longer or he may over amp). See if this helps..

I would change his water right away but if you really want him to have a good life you should get a small 2.5 or 5 gallon tank with a heater and filter.

I .m sorry to hear about your fish. you are right he does sound like he is dying. Unfortunately there isnt much you can do try taking him out of his bowl and maybe some fresh water with a lot of oxygen in it maybe it will help doesnt sound like it will hurt. if he does pass and you get another try to figure out what happenend first. < didnt ghange the water, maybe chemical poisons in the air like when they spray for bugs if you dont cover your fish it will kill them even if they say it doesnt Get him out of that tank and in like temp water good luck..
