Underrated and Overrated are just completely overused terms to talk about players people like or don't like. I take it you're a Jets fan...right? And that leads you to think the people don't respect Coles' ability...I'm guilty of the same thing at times with some of the people on the Panthers team (excluding Steve Smith of course...or Peppers) but others for sure. I think to call Coles underrated is...inacruate. The guy is good and people know he's good. It's when people stop respecting the guys ability when he becomes underrated, until then, he's rated just fine and he's a receiver that teams should respect no matter what because of that.

So no, he's not underrated, he's a great player and one that demands respect on the field with his play. It's only when people start comparing him to a certain guy in Cincinati, Carolina, or Indianapolis that he ever gets to be ANY level of underrated, and still I'm not sure he's on the level of them, but that doesn't mean he's no good...

lets not confuse what the media says as the truth.its their job to stir it up and theres no better way to do it than for those wannabees to rate talent.the only people that can tell you how good someone really is are the peolpe they play with and against.steve carlton wouldnt talk to the media so they wouldnt talk positive about him.he could be the best ever lefty.but if you ask them theyll say hes was overrated.the press dont make the player, i happen to think lavernius is very good.dont forget he was on that shopping spree with peter warrick in college.the over hyped one got busted.i guess it pays sometimes to be underrated.

This question is hard to answer, one being, that the jets do not have a very good QB in Chad Pennington. At the least, i would say that both of them are over rated. But, Coles did have his ups last year.

laverneus coles is extremely underrated! he makes so many good plays for the jets and he barely gets any credit....he should have been playing in the pro bowl without a doubt

Yes he is, always have been even at FSU when he got into trouble along with Peter Warrick but he took the fall and look at them now is Warrick even in football anymore? Meanwhile Coles has turned himself into a good football player.

He is as great as "Ocho Cinco" without the attitude If some says Marvin Harrison is better i say if you have that good of chemistry and a great QB anyone would be great

I think he is rated pretty high by most people.

He had a great year last year and the Jets will be better this year too.
