I was told back in my school days, and have heared many times subsequently that a man's pre-ejaculate (commonly called "pre-***") is rich in sperm, thereby allowing a woman to become pregnant from pre-ejaculate. I blindly accepted this as fact until recently.

While browing Wikipedia (which is at times a questionable source of info, but still useful for getting leads on new info or casual research) i stumbled on an article that said some research suggested there was little or no sperm in pre-ejaculate, but that there wasn't much research on the subject.

A bit supprised to hear this, I took a sample of my own and put it under my handy-dandy microscope (good quality, more than strong enough to see cells, including sperm, clearly). Again, I was a bit supprised not to see a single sperm cell. And I know for a fact I do not have a problem producing sperm cells.

Basically, I would like more info on this subject. Why did they always say that pre-ejaculate was rich in sperm?

By the way, I am not sexually active, but I plan to get married in a little over a month, and therefore will be imminently! I am therefore interested in either confirming or busting the idea of pre-ejaculate containing sperm cells, and determining whether or not what I observed under the microscope was a "fluke" or a typical case.

By the way, any sources anyone has with info on this topic, specifically ones with evidence to back them up, would be most welcome.

Pre-ejaculate may, on occasions, contain sperm, but would never be "rich in sperm".

Sorry I've no time to satisfy more your curiosity so I'll limit writing that prec.u.m isn't complete sperm but only part of the liquid produced and discharged during the ejaculation containing then the (complete) sperms.
Can't be more ejaculation during the same sexual act and prec.u.m only is due to the high stimulus that some glans got during the excitement of the sexual intercourse. Wikipedia is right!

Now that is odd, for I read yuears and years ago that the preejaculate carries up to 50,000 sperm cells

Not "rich in sperm", probably very few sperm cells. The point is that it only takes one.

There is not a lot, but they are there.
It may depend on when you took your sample.
