It seems to have no buttons for adjusting brightness contrast, horizontal and vertical alignment etc. How do you fix this? Is it done by the OS instead then? I run fedora but cannot find any option to allow for monitor settings from the OS. Any ideas?

LG's Flatron L1981Q is one of a few monitors with button-free image tuning, and it's the only current 19-incher with automatic pivot and automatic mirroring.

The tuning is done with the included ForteManager software.

Check the documentation in the cd that came with the monitor.

It might work using software like magic tune, but you will have to run it in Wine and see if it works. Otherwise.. get a monitor with some buttons.

Read the manual? I have yet to see an LCD monitor without OSD controls accessible through the buttons on the monitor itself.

The controls are located on the right side of the screen.
Tiny buttons for all your settings
Best of luck

Well you not give a Model number or screen size, so, go here and get the manual;
