Originally the color ecru meant exactly the same color as beige or pale cream colour, and the word is often used to refer to such fabrics as silk and linen in their unbleached state. Ecru comes from the French word écru, which means literally 'raw' or 'unbleached'. Now, however, ecru is considered a different color than beige.

or
Rowan Ecru: Rowan Denim cotton shrinks and fades when it is washed , just like a pair of jeans. The dying process ensures that only the surface of the yarn is coated leaving a white core which becomes gradually exposed through washing and wearing.
When washed for the first time the garment shrinks by up to 1/5th in length, however, the width remains the same. When knitting Rowan Denim to a Rowan pattern all the necessary adjustments for shrinkage are taken into consideration so all you have to do is follow the instructions.
