Try two funny mobster books - I Don't Want to Go to
Jail and the Gang that Couldnt Shoot Straight - both by Jimmy Breslin. They are great - I especially love the plot of I Don't Want to Go To Jail - You will die laughing. Pax - C.

The third Godfather movie was based on Shakespeare's King Lear. You could also try Macbeth.

Try Gerald Seymour's The Untouchable...the best book about a mob boss I've ever read although not a typical mob story.
His other books are pretty damned amazing, too.

Try Mystic River, about a murder of a young girl. There's some reference to orginized crime, and several twists in the plot.
