Ferrari. though Lamborghini is a close second. Maserati a great car, though I see it more as a wealthy/older businessman car
Porsches just lack detail, and their boulbus headlights look like they were right off a VW beetle.
EDIT: to ymb and cs7, Porsche mass produced cars compared to Ferrari or Lamborghini which specifically make their cars hard to aquire. You don't see 25 year old Lamborghini's selling for $1000 like the Porsche 944 or 924.
And styling cs7? VW might own Lambo and Porsche, but they share NO styling what so ever. Audi is the one that directly owns Lambo, though VW owns Audi.

How do you want to define "best?"
Porsche: Most successful race history of any sports car maker. They own 31% of VW (which owns Lamborgini - and not the other way around, VW does not and never has owned Porsche in whole or part) and produce more cars than any of the other companies mentioned here. They have always produced high performance, high technology cars that are as usable on the race track as they are under daily commute conditions. Also, the only independent company of the four.
Ferrari: Long and storied history and the most successful team in Formula 1 (with alot of success in other forms of racing over the years as well). Their race experience has always led to cutting edge technology in their designs... which have almost always been works of art unto themselves. The company is no longer independent and is owned by Fiat, but as a division, all aspects of Ferrari are very profitable and they sell all cars they can make. They also currently own the rights tot he Maserati name.
Lamborghini: The company has changed hands quite often, and is currently owned by VW. While they have always had stunning designs and great numbers on paper, their origins as a maker of farming equipment is usally all too visible in their chasis design/quality (though much improved since VW ownership). And despite a number of tries, they've never achieved even marginal success in racing.
Maserati: You almost have to consider this one only in a historical perspective. The current Maserati offerings are simply Ferrari's with lots of extra weight. It would be hard to put forth any compelling argument for Maserati as a great name anytime after the 1960s. There and earlier, a great Marque that often outshone the much larger Italian competition. Now just a name from the past that Ferrari has managed to use to market luxury cars.
So, unless you wish to consider design asthetic, or luxury features as "best," you are really talking about Porsche or Ferrari. The current Lamborghini offerings deserve at least a mention if you are referring performance areas as "best," but they are a still and easy third behind Porsche and Ferrari in any area other than straight line performance.
So Porsche or Ferrari? Porsche has the edge in total race history, company success, engineering (with so much engineering done for other car companies over the years), and general function and usability of their product. Ferrari enjoy the edge in current/recent racing success at the highest levels and sheer sexieness of their product (albeit at the cost of overall usability). I tend to favor Porsche, though mood could easily leave me all to ready to say Ferrari.

Porsche is probably the "best" in terms of the fact that they have the largest market share of probably any specialist sportscar manufacturer. They also make very reliable and at least somewhat affordable automobiles that are REALLY fast. As far as overall pinache and true blooded sports cars though, I don't think anything beats a ferrari. Lambos are nice but they're rather large and not focused at all aspects of sports driving, they're more just fast nice cars, Maserati is similar in those respects.

Best in what way.?? Speed? comfort? Gas milage(haha). I'd pick the Lamborghini and park it with the doors wide open for all to see. I think that's what it is best at.
