Top contributor means NOTHING more than somebody who has answered a lot of questions. Any psycho can sit there typing yes, no, yes, no all day, and their points WILL add up. But that is called quantity over quality. I feel my answers are a LOT better than some of the top contributors. That is just a title. Like if an escaped mental fugitive went to Mc Donald´s, he´s still going to be a paying customer. So top contributor means nothing to me. Maybe somebody who´s contributed over 1000 ´helpful (not throwing ones prejudiced opinion onto the other)´ answers should be applauded. Where are the rewards for that, I ask ya??? People are greedy. They aren´t going to mark best answer to the one that brings the most truth. They are going to partially do what everybody else does, just more in their own ´way´. So points technically, don´t mean jack. The ghost of Socrates could be on here, and have more intelligent answers than some or all of the top contributors. Heck, you don´t even get paid to be on yahoo answers. So think about what the top contributors are doing all day. ALL DAY. Anyway, I feel higher than getting caught up in all that. Good luck though. Love and Respect.

At the risk of being terminated, I will share my thoughts with you.
Yes, I feel like a participant in a research project - all without my permission. Although, it would be fun to do that.
It is still rather "odd" that they introduced Contacts and Fans into a Question & Answer site. And then they get "upset" when people behave in a "community" way. Just look at the outrage regarding the Hippo and PondLife issue. dukalink is another example.
The Badge was taken away to protect some from the Trolls, Reporters, and Evil-Doers, in my opinion. I say this because I received a Trojan and harassessment letter from a TROLL.
But then, you must remember, I have a very highly active imagination that runs away with me on occasion. And I enjoy my adventures every single minute.

Just when you start to get used to something, they take it away, you are right about the psycho social experiment. It is like they are taking candy from a baby, just to see what happens. How sick is that?

the "Top Contributor" badge has yet to be given to me, so hasn't yet been taken away... I don't yet see any conspiracy theory here

No, perhaps you should take some time off from Y/A. You seem to be too wrapped up in it. Go outdoors and get some fresh air.

It is strange now that you made me think about it. Could be, we're in some type of weird experiement and we're not even being paid! How rude! I'm still think it's a tech problem....

this is not even a question - all large databases are analised by psychologists - there masses of documents on how people use sites like google and ebay - i have even see graphs of how peoples eyes move around the screen when viewing a google listing - so the same will be true of this

I'm sure there is something to that....I do not see how you can have this type of site and not do some experimentation.
