My mother always taught me to vacuum first and then dust as vacuuming kicks up more dust.

Dust first. Then do something else for a little while to give any loose dust time to hit the floor. Then vacuum.

dust first. Always clean from the top down or you'll need to vacuum more than once to get all the dust that you've just dropped onto the floor.

I always dust first and leave the vacuuming until last. I hate to vacuum and continually hope that the vacuum fairy will come do it for me.
