Hi. Click"Start> All programs> Accessories> Entertainment> Volume control> ". There are settings for 'Record", one of which mutes the mick. Uncheck 'Mute".

Open the volume control, double click on speaker on task bar RHS.
Ensure line in is not muted and turn volume up.
