Johnny had wrote the song for the movie City of Angels but he didn't know what to call it so he was sitting around one day trying to think of a name and saw an add for a singer named Iris in the newspaper, he liked the name so decided to call it Iris

I thought that the song was called Iris after the girl that he's singing it to... But the sight/iris reference makes sense to me know.

It may be because the song focuses on the the sense of sight ' i dont want the world to SEE me'....
so the iris is a part of your eye.... i dont know it seems logical

At first I thought iris was a flower so it cud have been someone's name LOL!
