How can I inhibit the production of cones by the blue spruce in front of my house?

Usually conniferous trees overproduce cones when they are stressed or dying in order to continue the species. Fertilize it to keep it healthy.

When you notice your tree "candling", prune off the candles. If you watch the tree, you will see what appears to be candles coming up out of the branches. If you prune the candles off, pinecones will not form.
