I'm a Muslim.. and i think i could explain why they do that..
Islam asked us to fight those who fight Islam and Muslims..
in the other hand Islam prohibit us from killing Innocent people and unmuslims who live among us.. Islam in Arabic means " PEACE"..
but there are some extreme Muslims who only look at the point where Islam ask to fight.. they don't look at any other things Islam asked us to do.. they understand it very wrong!..
every Muslim country fight them.. like here in Saudi Arabia.. all the forces trying to catch these extremists.. Islam doesn't ask for randomly attacks at innocent people and civilians ..
Islam respect people's lives even when they are non-Muslims..
prophet Mohamed (peace be upon him) lived with Jewish people.. they were living normal life without fights nor killing innocents!.. but those terrorists doesn't look at that at all!.. that's why.. I'm sorry for the long talk.. but i really wanted to show the clear picture

Employment: Unemployment in the majority of muslin countries is double digit, and with young males ages 15 – 25 unemployment is in the 20% – 25% range.
Education: Poor economies result in poor public education systems, the British left the legacy of an education system in India, have you taken a look at the Indian economy lately.. Most muslin countries (aside from the gulf states) have ramshackle public education systems, hence the religious organizations step in to provide basic education, typically preferencing males, and typically with strong religious overtones (kind of like Europe during the middle ages and crusades).
Our own media: Take Hollywood’s portrayal of America, as a gang infested, sex crazed, crime ridden nation of over consuming atheists and project that upon an under educated, poor, provincial religious mindset and you have a recipe for hatred.
Young disaffected males, without much hope and a focal point for all that is wrong in their world..
Remember the IRA and The Ulster Patriots, they were also underemployed disaffected males, without much hope and a focal point for all that was wrong in their world.

It's simply because that is the religion of the belief system of those living on top of those mideast oilfields.
Terrorism is the result of injustice. Since the West has been interferring at the cost of innocent lives in that area for decades, the results are not surprising at all.

#1 The Muslim faith is one of the largest as far as number of followers, so it's a law of probablity.
#2 they are what is "news" today so it gathers more coverage.
There are other terrorist attcks such as in Sierra Leon by the Tamil Tigers, etc, but they don't seem to get the same news coverage.

I think you're going to get creamed for even asking this, but I hope you don't.
The reason is that many Muslims feel that their jihad compels them to terrorism. They also have leaders that exploit them. Furthermore, the Islamic world was dominated by the West for centuries so I think they feel a sense of revenge.
