Depends on whether it is a laptop or a desktop - they use different har drives
Depends on how much file storage space you want on the hard drive 40Gig/80Gig/125Gig/250Gig
Depends on whether it has an IDE or a SATA connector.
Go to the Dell website and enter your model number or service tag. It will list the hard drives they have available and the prices. Find the one you want and write down the information. Then do a Google search for the same type of hard drive and you will probably find a better price for it elsehwere.
Or take the information to favorite electronic or computer store. They will be able to help you find a matching hard drive for less then the Dell site.

The good news is that you don't have to buy a Dell HDD. Any HDD will do. Costs range depending on size. A 40 gb may be all you need and they can go for $40.

Dell is not a very good computer system. I would visit the Dell website if you are looking for a new hardrive then visit the website and possibly contact them.. they should be able to help.

it would depend on the size(GB) but they are very inexpensive now, some people will tell you that you need a massive hard drive, you don't unless you want it, and it doesn't really matter what brand your computer is, you'll pay more if you buy it from dell that's for sure

Dell takes a regular hard drive such as Western Digital. Try www.pricewatch.com for best prices.

That depends on the size and type of hard drive.
You need to find out if you need an IDE or a SATA drive.
Both are anywhere between $35 and $200, depending on the space available.

Hard drives are very inexpensive compared to a few years ago.
A 300GB hard drive is under $100 U.S.
Unless the PC is a notebook computer any hard drive will do. Does not need to be purchased from Dell unless they've gotten exceedingly greedy & gone proprietary on that as well.

It depends.
Is it a notebook or a desktop hard drive?
If it is a desktop, is it IDE or SATA?
How much storage space do you want to have on the drive?
Details.
