There is only 1 sandy beach in Key West, and it's not natural, but it is nice. The keys were created by reefs, so the isn't any sand.

Realize that Key West has many, MANY Gays and Lesbians.

It's a great place to party. Just park downtown, and roam the clubs at night. The downtown is small enough, that you can walk just about anywhere.

Key West is one of my most favorite places on this earth. You are going to have a great time. Depending if you are driving in from the Miami area or not you will want to stop in Key Largo where they have an ocean boat I recommend if you are in to gambling.

The last time I was in Key West I spent most of my time in a bar called Irish Kevin's. It's extremely entertaining and reasonably priced. I once won a Guinness chugging contest there. Beat the one of the owners. It was one of my proudest moments.

Key West is also known for their beautiful sunsets, so make sure you make the effort to watch as many as you can. Perhaps on a booze cruise?? You can take a boat out and go snorkeling and on the way back drink a few beers, mingle with some great people and watch the sun melt into the ocean.

If you have the money to do it I also recommend renting a scooter or bike to check out the entire island, it is quite beautiful.

You have got me so excited, I am just going to have to check out the airlines for cheap flights. Have fun!

I lived in key west for 12 years, theres a chilled little restaraunt called El Cibonay that I consistently went to. visit Duval street, that is the position each and each of the action is, that is the most admired position in Key West. There are a ton of truly cool present shops and places to get your hair braided there. there is this really nifty previous watch tower that became restored from the 1800s round Duval. strolling is really tiring so renting a golfcart or bicycles is a superior theory.

First, get a moped to get around since it is such a small island.
a must is to see the sunset at Mallory square
the rest depends on you interests
HEMINGWAY HOME & MUSEUM (seethe six toe cats)
90 mile marker
CONCH TOUR TRAIN to see and hear history of island
KEY WEST AQUARIUM
lots of fishing snorkling and scuba tours (highlly recommended)
dont expect any great beaches when you go there
if nightlife is your thing there are endless choices
Hog's Breath Saloon is a must so is the Green Parrot Bar (good key west flavor) and Sloppy Joe's

The Eden House is nice to stay at. They have a great pool and free happy hour at 4-6.

Eat at Pepe's. Look at the Wyland wall (marine art painter) across from here.

Walk around town and the neighborhoods. The houses are gorgeous. There are some neat cemetarys too with lots of chickens running around and cats.

The Hemmingway house is here, but have never been in it. Around the corner from that is the Lighthouse.

Chill, have a beer, enjoy the warth and your vacation.

Beaches are great; fishing is fabulous, walks are terrific, food is delicious, and it is a very romantic place to visit. The actress Kelly McGillis has a great Restaurant in Key West. It is VERY casual dress wise, it can get hot, but the ocean is right there to cool off. Enjoy. I love it down there, I can sleep a lot better and rest my weary bones. Have fun.

Key West is fantastic! We went last year and loved it. Here are some of teh things we did:

--rented bikes and rode around the island
--sunbathed
--went to the beach
--walked up and down the main shopping strip (can't remember the street name but you can't miss it)
--saw the lighthouse
--went to Hemingway's house
--got our picture taken at milepost 0
--Went to Mallory Square and ate dinner and watched the sunset and all the performers down there
--Went to Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville bar/restaurant
--Went to a drag show

Other things we didn't get a chance to do:

--snorkeling
--parasailing
--taking a boat trip to the Dry Tortugas
--rent a scooter

Walk up and down Duval Street having a drink in every bar. Hang out at Captain Tony's where Hemingway used to hang out. Visit Hemingway's home. Go for several boat rides and watch the birds or go fishing. Visit the aquarium.

If you like to snorkel you should take a boat trip excursion out to the Dry Tortugas. Great snorkeling and it is a wonderful boat ride out there. It is one of the best places to see in Key West.
