Length is a measurement of distance or dimension. The two main systems to measure length are the metric and the English system. The metric system is based on 10. The meter is the standard unit and portions of that are in tens.

It all depends; In the construction industry, design (architectural) the most used metric length is the millimeter. In schools teachers tend to use centimeter's throughout. carpet layers will use Meter's and so on. To be strictly accurate, the unit of length in the metric system is the meter.
