Ruined - no.
It was chosen from one of many simply because it was:
1-believe to be written by the same hand that wrote John, although probably not the disciple John
2-in line with what the Church wanted taught
There are many other non-cannon "revelations" (the most notable being the 1st Apocalypse of James and the Coptic Apocalypse of Paul) available which tell a somewhat different story.
What bothers me about The Apocalypse of John (Revelations) is that many seem to use it to justify their behavior - if I sin and repent, I will be forgiven. Is it not better to not sin, and therefore not need to repent?
I, personally, prefer Mark 13, the Word of Jesus about the endtimes, to Revelations.

The book of Revelations is there to
predict,
to warn,
to give reason,
and to give hope for those who are 'believers' in Jesus Christ. What will appear to be the end, will actually become a new beginning.
It gives peace of heart to know that evil will end,
and that God is in control.
This book has not ruined Christianity, rather, it keeps us moving forward looking for a future beyond all the ciaos.

It's only in the USA that it's consider prophetic. Most everywhere else considers it history. I do see where you are coming from however. The book of Revelations does seem to have given Christians the idea that enemies lurk around every corner and now they see enemies where there is none.

Hardly.
You seem obsessed with the Book of Revelation.
But I digress.
Would you be so kind as to cite sources supporting your allegation that Christianity is "ruined"?

No! Why would you say that?
Did the book of John ruin Christianity? What about Leviticus?
That's a silly question.

OK...I'm an atheist,
but I wonder,
do you know that the religion of Islam is based on one Middle Eastern warlord child marrying man's account of being taken on a flying horse up into heaven and down into hell and back again and his ispirations and philosophy was put in his life work accounts called the Koran?

Just blunders and slip-ups with human errors with misinterpretation, miscommunication, communication failures and communication break-down in planet of apes.
If don't know anything aout it.
Try and ask Mulder and Scully in the X-files.
Ask them what were they doing in "Out of Africa"
