Can black holes merge, or would they just negate eachother(2 negatives=positive)?

I would tend to think that they would not so much merge as one would 'consume' the other. I would not go with the positive charge and the negative change way of thought.

Yes, black holes can merge. They release a large amount of gravitational radiation when they do, and this may be detectable by gravity-wave telescopes. There is a whole sub-field of astronomy dedicated to making computer models of merging black holes. Recently it has met with some success.

If black holes did exist they would have to be able to merge.
They would act like any other celestial body.
Eventually all black holes in the universe would merge creating one big black hole containing all the matter in the universe and would sit doing nothing for eternity.
This one minor fact would exclude the black hole from being a viable entity.
