Make signs, post them through your neighborhood, the earlier the sale the better the profits. For some reason early people love yard sales! Post in the craigslist events section about the yard sale. Might draw more poepel, also list some big items on your flyers. Organize your junk into sections, clothes, cds/dvds, furtniture, knicknacks, etc. Now set some prices. You could organize tables by price or just indivually price. Be reasonable and willing to negotiate prices. Its better to make a sale than throw it away! At the end of the day donate the remainder to a tax deductible organization such as the salvationarmy. YOu will have made some profits and made a difference!

ADVERTISE!
this is most important, hang signs if allowed , but be sure to remove them after the sale, put an add in the newspaper, its inexpensive, and they will usually give you a "yard sell kit" signs , ect....
Make sure all your items are grouped together , clean, and priced good, dont over price
Make sure its a good time of the month, when social securtiy checks, ect come in, this is the first of the month...this way you know people will have money
Check your weather, you dont want a rainy day......
but just in case, try to have a tarp up
You can also ask your neighbors, and have a block yard sell, where you all pay a small fee for the newspaper add, and pick a date and sell at your own houses, these are very popular, you get more traffic also beware, no matter what time you put for your sale to begin, there will be "early birds" and will show up an hour early to try and get the good buys.....I call them pests...lol
I also always buy a few cases of soda or water and sell them for .50 , people are running around all day yard sell shopping and get thirsty....lol I just put a cooler out and a sign on it......
Good luck and have fun =)

Step one sort through everthing in your house you would like to sell.
Step 2 put an add in the classifieds in some of your local papers. Including the hours of operation.
Step 3 Organize everything in to piles of similar stuff, kitchen, toys, clothes men and womens etc.
Step 4 Figure out how you are going to display. The more they can see the more they will buy. GOt any small tables? Kids tables, card tables, tables you can borrow from the neighbours or family. These work great.
Step 5 Cash box and lots of change. Even a fanny pack works this way you dont have to worry about guarding the cash box.
Step 6 Have fun!
Hope this helps, dont forget you can put up posters, signs with balloon the day before your garage sale to attract more buyers. Good luck to you and your sale

First call your local code office and see if you need a permit. permits are required in many areas. If one is required then go down and get it. The fine far outweighs any proceeds that you may make on the sale. Set the date. Put an ad in your local paper. Put signs in approved areas. And start the sale.
Have your goods out early because most people start shopping early so that they don't miss out on the good stuff. Make sure you have plenty of change.
Good luck.

We gather up everything we want to sell in the garage. We then sort everything out by type or product and place a value to it. We put alittle sticker on it with a price. Then write it down on paper to match it up when someone wants to buy it. You'll make deals with people, so think about your lowest price to sell. Buy some signs at Home Depot or Lowes. Write your address on them and place in stategic locations. Be sure not to put them in the city right of way or on telephone poles. They will get taken down. You may want to go Craigslist.com and advertise online. Then open up and make some money. Good luck

Put a bunch of old crap in the yard with prices on it, put out a sign and advertise it in the paper. What's hard about that?
